I am in wendell,nc and want to plant a vegie %26amp; flower garden, need resources %26amp; no money?
There are many places on the web that can give you free seeds if you send them a self adressed envelope. I am starting my own veggie garden this year too. Happy Gardening!
Reply:the dollar store sells seeds really reasonable, you can also get seeds from some of the veggies you eat,for example green peppers, canteloupe, tomatoes ,potatoes(make sure they have eyes on them, you will need to cut a thick piece and plant eyes up,cover deep, kinda like a long hill) use your imagination.and try planting different things,
Reply:The only thing I can suggest is look up your local Freecycle group online and ask for seeds.
Reply:Why don't you try in your neighbor hood if you can swap some plants. Like a recipe swap, try a plant swap. if you have a nice plant or bush in your yard try getting a start from it and swap it with a neighbor for a start of one of theirs. it is a fun excuse to get out and about and maybe talk with your friends. Or try having a neighborhood garden where you all buy a few plant and work together and rep the reward.
Reply:Go to your local craigslist or freecycle list and request seeds and/or seedlings. I'm sure there are people who would be willing to share their seeds.

I need extra sunlight for my flowers this upcoming winter. Where can i purchase a garden lamp?
get grow lamps at wallmart for about 6 to 8 dollors
Reply:are you talking about a single light or a grow light to put plants under both of these items can be found at a hardware store- i purchased a regular floresent light fixture that holds 2 -4 foot plant lites and I put plants under them when they need an extra dose of light-i hope this helps
Reply:Extra light?? Why would you need extra light??

Sun is free, and everywhere.
Reply:You can't with teh traditional gro-light.

Google hydroponic supplies
Reply:You don't have to purchase a grow lamp. All you have to do is install a fluorescent fixture and install one cool bulb and one warm bulb for fluorescent fixtures.. Yes, they come in cool and warm. This is how I germinate seeds in my utility room.

How do I create a flower garden around a tree? I am a beginner in gardening and planting?

I have an old tree in front of my home. I like to add a flower bed around the tree, but I am new to planting and gardening. Also, my lawn needs a lot of care. Last year my husband tilled part of our lawn and we replanted new grass, but our lawn looks very unhealty with a lot of try, burned like spots. What can I do to have a healthy lawn, and how do I go about creating my flower bed around the tree. I like to put a border around the tree like a small wall maybe. I want the flower bed be higher than the actual lawn. We have mostly clay dirt. Can you give me some advice and/or help. Thanks.

Two words: Container Gardening.
Reply:first, if your lawn has any burn spots, it sounds like he put too much fertilizer on it, %26amp; not enough water, %26amp; never do this during the day, the sun will make the fertilizer hot, %26amp; burn whatever it is on. Water your lawn in the morning, not at night, %26amp; not during the middle of the day either.( it'll burn it %26amp; at night, it brings bugs)

If you want the flower garden higher then the lawn, first, put a border around the tree, as far out as you want the flower garden to be, then build it up with some good potting soil, %26amp; perlite, then, before you add any flowers to it, water it first, slowly, %26amp; when you plant your flowers , do not crowd them when you, %26amp; bury the flowers just about up to the where the bottom leaves start.

If you have mostly clay dirt, try to keep your flowers just in the potting soil mix. You can feed them "not on top of the flowers" around the stems, with Miracle-gro for flowers, about once a month, or what it tells you on the side of the box,( when you plant your flowers, try to do this "after" the sun is going down" because the sun will burn the roots of the flowers.) %26amp; Good Luck !!!
Reply:A raised bed is probably beast around the tree as you don't want to till down and distub the roots. As best you can try to keep the deepest portion of the raised bed out at the drip line of the tree again so as not to interfere with the roots of the tree.

There are so many sweet smelling flowers, for instance, sweet peas, night scented stock, evening primrose and my favourite Deep Secret rose, it's scent is so heavenly.

What are the immediate benefits of having flowers, bushes, trees, etc. installed on your garden, backyard, etc

What do people do this? This question is being posted just for the purposes of a research on what homeowners get in return when installating green life around their houses.

Thanks in advance.

beautyful suroundings.it brings happyness to see flowers around your house it makes it look better also.
Reply:Plantings also help with erosion and water run off.

The feeling of accomplishment that what you have planted is growing and giving you pleasure
Reply:oxygen !
Reply:its good for energy conservation if you place deciduous trees on the southern side of your house, they will block the suns heat in the summer and when all the leaves fall off in the winter they will let winter sun heat your house, also planting trees or shrubbery that bears fruit will attract wildlife like birds and squirrels. and provide nesting spots, and if you are a good decorator, it will make your garden look pleasing
Reply:It adds beauty to the house and makes the gardener proud.

Do you have any butterflies in your flower garden? If you do, where do you live? Anyone in the Midwest?

Living in the midwest, I have only seen 3 butterflies this year. I have a beautiful flower garden and miss seeing the beautiful butterflies that I have had in past years.

I live in St. Louis (so, yes, the midwest). I saw two gorgeous Monarch butterflies this morning hovering around my garden, and I saw some pretty butterflies yesturday around my pool area. Truthfully, though, I haven't seen that many butterflies this year either. It may be because of the lack of rain (that's killing our poor little squirels right now because they can't get any food) in the midwestern area. I'm not quite sure, but good question. I'll be on the look-out for butterflies today.
